Artists in Action: Jon Adelung
Posted by Carey Hall on
Jon Adelung is a self-taught artist from El Paso, Texas. His work has been categorized as Cartoon, but Adelung deviates from the typical cartoon aesthetic by incorporating dark imagery and dramatic pops of color. I sat down with Jon in his home studio in Sharpsburg, Georgia to chat about his inspirations, the creative process, and of course, space! AAR: What initially drew you to art? Jon Adelung (JA): From a young age, I was drawing on everything. I always had to have a pen and paper. So, it happened like that--every day, every day. Pretty soon I had a...

Fredrik Brauer, an Atlanta based photographer, has been capturing what he sees for over twenty-five years. His professional career began in the early 2000s and centers around Architectural, Commercial, and Editorial Photography. With a keen eye for how light can make or break a photograph, Brauer attributes a lot of his best photographs to “time and patience.” I sat down with Fredrik in his West End studio to learn more about his lifelong love of photography and what projects he's currently working on. AAR: What sparked your interest in photography? Fredrik Brauer (FB): I was in junior high in Stockholm, Sweden,...

Her “Difficult Women” and “Hula Girls” series explore many of these themes, all while challenging the viewer to look past the seeming tragedy of the missing pieces, to find the somber beauty in something and someone who has been...

Julie on set as extra for the CW show, "The Originals" Julie Tucker-Demps, a New Orleans native, made her way to Atlanta in 1994. Although she studied art at Delgado Community College in Louisiana, her art career didn’t take off until she arrived in Atlanta. I sat down with Julie in her home studio to hear about the unlikely events that led to her being a member of the Castleberry Group, her inspirations, and how it feels to see her artwork on a television show set in New Orleans. AAR: Tell me about your relationship with art. How did...

Erin Wicker, also known as erin the great, is a local children’s book illustrator and purveyor of the whimsical. Her illustrations invite viewers into a world of detailed fantasy, where it is easy to get lost in her vibrant colors and imaginative characters. “I can distinctly remember coloring and thinking this would be the greatest job ever. I think that’s my process. I make a coloring page and then I color it,” says Erin. I sat down with Erin in her home studio in Glenwood Park to speak further about her illustrations, her gnomes project, connections with the...
